From Here to There to Here

This project combines performance art with the visual trace of movements to create an archive of a place. This form of drawing is based on several performative elements: the movement of the body, physiological complexities, and the creation of trajectories in space. The drawings are created from the body’s movement and displacement, becoming a kind of dataset that could be used to decipher origin and routes: the translation of a vector followed by an individual.

The drawings are produced using a variety of methods: the artist wears a backpack fitted with a mechanism that translates the body’s movements onto paper; the artist holds a pencil against the surface of the paper while walking between two predetermined points; the artist travels by car, bus, or subway along a fixed route. The artist attempts to remove the intention behind the pencil stroke from the act of creating a drawing, becoming a sort of seismograph that records his wanderings across the terrain.

Ce projet combine l'art de la performance et la trace visuelle du mouvement pour manifester une archive d'un lieu. Cette forme de dessin est basée sur plusieurs éléments performatifs : le déplacement du corps, les complexités physiologiques et la création de trajectoires dans l’espace. Les dessins sont réalisés à partir du déplacement et des mouvements du corps, devenant une sorte d'ensemble de données qui pourrait être utilisé pour déchiffrer l'origine et la route : la traduction d'un vecteur suivi par un individu.

Les dessins sont produits par des méthodes variées ; l’artiste porte un sac à dos avec un mécanisme qui traduit les mouvements du corps sur papier, l’artiste tient un crayon sur la surface du papier lors d’une marche entre deux points prédéterminés, l’artiste se transporte en voiture, autobus, ou métro sur un itinéraire fixe. L’artiste essaye d’enlever l’intention du trait de crayon dans l’acte de création d’un dessin, pour devenir une espèce de séismographe qui enregistre sa déambulation sur le terrain.
